Afro Bembe Series in Harlem

Happy Birthday Machito!!!!!! On this day in 1909 the vanguard musician composer and legendary bandleader Frank "Machito" Grillo was born. He was the innovator of Afro Cuban Jazz spawning every style from Cu Bop to Salsa. He bridged the gap between Cuban music and Jazz at a time when blacks and latinos live side by side in Harlem. Thursday December 6 we honor Machitos life in music and celebrate Chango with music from The Cimarron Project featuring Roman Diaz kicking off the Afro Bembe Series.
